David Bowie has retired from touring, but evidently the iconic glam rocker isn’t done releasing studio albums just yet.
The single is a hefty 10 minutes long and includes Gregorian chants, a soul section, electronic beats and, of course, Bowie’s unique vocals. They called it “an album of long, jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by ’70s German bands Can and Kraftwerk”, and said that it was recorded at New York’s The Magic Shop with a band comprised of jazz musicians.
“Blackstar” is also featured in Lazarus, the Off-Broadway play co-written by Bowie and Enda Walsh. It’s due to be released as a single on 19th November.
But fans who are hoping to see him perform his new material live will be disappointed to hear that David’s reportedly jacked touring in for good, according to The Isle of Wight Festival’s promoter John Giddings any way. A few other Bowie albums that show this inspiration are Space Oddity, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and Earthling.
