Nike to launch self-lacing Back to the Future sneakers
The Nike Mag shoes features an innovation called “power laces”, which combines the archetype invention with digital technology. The Nike Mags might be the first of a new kind of “smart shoe” that continuously re-adjusts the fit to optimize comfort and performance.

Film lovers across the world are celebrating the day which Marty McFly and Doc Brown gate-crashed in their flying DeLorean in the second Back to the Future film. The company presented the first pair to Marty McFly himself (otherwise known as Michael J. Fox) on Wednesday – Back to the Future Day.
Legendary Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield teased the special gift via a handwritten note, saying: “We wanted you to be the first to receive a pair…”
“By imagining the future, we create it”, Nike CEO Mark Parker said in a statement.
In the film, he is seen putting on a pair of Nike High Tops that automatically tighten and adjust to fit his feet using ‘power laces’.
“And when you’re involved in something like that it’s just so humbling and a privilege and I don’t know that I ever thought it would be like this 30 years out”.
In a video showing Fox trying on the shoes, the Back to the Future star declares: “That’s cool… that’s insane… that’s really great”.
“There was just an excitement of being an 80’s kid, and being like wow we are going to have that!”, said Ortiz.
In another recent interview, Lloyd also said that co-star Michael J Fox would be willing to be part of the project despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease since 1991.

Nike collaborated with the film’s makers to create the original pair 30 years ago and are pretty pleased with the result.
