Ex-NFL star Eddie George to slip into ‘Chicago’ on Broadway
He will begin performances on January 11, 2016 and is scheduled to play a limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre through February 28. He has appeared in Matthew Lopez’s The Whipping Man and Suzan-Lori Parks’ Topdog/Underdog, among other shows. George, a modern-day Renaissance man, makes his way to Broadway 20 years after he won the Heisman Trophy in 1995 for his exploits at Ohio State.
In 2012, George founded his own theater troupe in Nashville, TN called “Actors By George”. He’s starred in a few smaller plays in Nashville the past few years.
He didn’t slow down in his post-playing career, earning an MBA from Northwestern University and joining the board of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. Actress and TV sensation NeNe Leakes (Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”) will join the production in the role of Matron “Mama” Morton for 4 weeks only, November 23 – December 20, 2015.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking.
