Toshiba in talks to sell image sensor business to Sony: Nikkei
The company is reportedly finalizing a deal with Toshiba to buy its sensor business for about $164 million.

Venture Beat adds that Masashi Muromachi, Toshiba’s new CEO following the accounting scandal, had promised at that time that the company will restructure lower-margin businesses. The sensor business is part of the company’s system LSI semiconductor business.
According to “sources with knowledge of the deal”, Sony and Toshiba are getting ready to sign a deal for 20 billion Yen (close to $165 million USD).
The Sony-Toshiba talks are at an advanced stage and the decision is likely to be announced soon, people familiar with the matter said.
Toshiba has a rather diverse lineup, ranging from laptops to nuclear power, is undergoing said restructuring after they discovered that they have overstated their earning by earnings by $1.3 billion reverting to fiscal 2008/09. It is an integral part of Japanese industry Toshiba’s LSI semiconductor business so far.
Sony has taken the lead in global market share for chips that cameras and smartphones use to capture and digitize photos. Sony spokesman George Boyd declined to comment. Sony is a leading, popular and strong brand in image sensor market. company’s products are used in mobile phones manufactured by China’s Xiaomi as well as India’s Micromax Informatics Ltd. However, the latest tweet is all about Toshiba selling away its manufacturing plant of image sensor in Oita to Sony.
