Time for Eagles to bench DeMarco Murray — Philadelphia Inquirer
Chip Kelly has also ran off a few of the best players that the Eagles have had recently and kept the racist Riley Cooper.

It seems as though thousands of fans and a handful of pundits had the same thought while Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews sprinted down the sideline of Bank of America Stadium last night.
“It was a great run”, Sam Bradford said about the 63-yarder in his postgame press conference. Instead, the team continued to handoff to 2014 rushing champion-turned-2015 dude who would be cut from JV, DeMarco Murray.
Mathews’ groin injury could explain the 12 minutes that went by before his next carry. Murray, meanwhile, has been out there for 232 snaps, 140 of which have been pass plays – 60.3 percent.
“What has become abundantly clear over the first seven games of the season”, McLean wrote, “is that Mathews is a better option out of the backfield than Murray”. The former San Diego Chargers first-round pick has 342 yards and three touchdowns on just 56 carries, while Murray has 307 yards and three touchdowns on 88 carries. We all want to see more of number 24.
Sproles is more of a pass-catching specialist and isn’t exactly a downhill runner between the tackles due to a slender frame.
According to Football Outsiders, Mathews had accumulated 91 Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement heading into Week 6, the fourth most among the 39 running backs with at least 48 carries. Murray is at minus-11, 32nd among this group.
Plus, Mathews is more explosive. Astonishingly after that play, he only ran the football one more time the rest of the game. That’s nine touches for 121 yards.
“I don’t know those guys’ rotation during the game, but I think Mathews-when he gets in-he does a good job”, linebacker DeMeco Ryans, who missed Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury, told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday. Mathews tallied 97 yards on his six attempts.

“There’s only one ball”, he said.
