The New Jersey Devils look to match last season’s longest winning streak on Saturday, when they vie for their fourth consecutive victory versus promising rookie Jack Eichel and the host Buffalo Sabres.

Kane left the game immediately and did not return.

It was Ullmark’s National Hockey League debut for the 2-6 Sabres.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Down a man and staring down a rookie goaltender, New Jersey Devils center Adam Henrique all but ensured Saturday night’s win over the pesky Buffalo Sabres.

“We needed a big kill, obviously”, Henrique said. He’s arguably been the Sabres’ best defenseman, and no doubt a small part of the game is being able to put up points.

A marquee acquisition for Sabres general manager Tim Murray last season, Kane missed all but 37 games for the Winnipeg Jets in 2014-15 after undergoing left shoulder surgery. O’Reilly lost two key draws Friday night that led directly to Montreal goals in a 7-2 loss.

Devils goaltender Cory Schneider, who will start his fifth consecutive game, is looking forward to facing Eichel.

Winless a week ago, the New Jersey Devils have not lost since.

O’Reilly scored on a backhand shot 2:32 into the second period to put Buffalo back up 2-1. The Sabres pulled their goalie with about a minute and a half remaining the game down 4-2.

Sabres coach Dan Bylsma did not update on Kane’s condition after the game.

“It’s two guys battling and they go in together and he gets turned and they’re knee-on-knee that goes into the boards”, Bylsma said. “I don’t want to speculate”.

Buffalo scored moments later on a power play when Ennis sent a slap shot through traffic that flew under Schneider’s glove to make it 1-0. Cammalleri shot the puck and it bounced to Henrique at the crease where he backhanded it in. Defenseman Cody Franson notched a pair of assists for his first points of the season.
