Boston Bruins Zac Rinaldo Not Suspended for Couturier Hit

He made 16 saves on 18 shots, including a critical acrobatic stop in the third period that jumpstarted the Flyers’ comeback, and eventually picked up the win, his first of the season.

Backup goalie Michal Neuvirth was also injured against Boston and was removed after the first period.

Mason was hoping it could spark the team.

“He’s a guy you hate to play against”, Umberger said. The Bruins, who reached overtime for the first time under the new 3-on-3 format, visit the New York Islanders on Friday night.

The Flyers were trailing by two goals heading into the third period in Boston last night, due to two very weak goals given up by Flyers goaltender Steve Mason.

The Bruins may be tied for the best home power play (5/13, 38.5 percent) in the league but the penalty kill has been their kryptonite on home ice.

Shane Doan had a goal and two assists, and Tobias Rieder and Kyle Chipchura also scored for Arizona.

“I think that was the worst power play we’ve had in the last 4 { years I’ve been here”, Simmonds said. “Too many slow reactions defensively and lack of communication and poor decisions”.

Rinaldo, as is his wont, made it a point to let everyone know that there are “no friends” on the ice, when asked what it would be like to go up against his old team prior to Wednesday night’s game.

In other injury news, forward Brayden Schenn remains day to day with an upper-body ailment. Scott Laughton saw the opportunity to send Gagner up ice, and the forward saw little resistance from a exhausted Kevan Miller, allowing the quick shot to beat Rask. The goal was Hayes’ second of the season, and the seventh assist for Krejci, who leads the league in points with 11 (four goals, seven assists).

Just a few minutes after that incredible save, Claude Giroux, the Philadelphia Flyers captain, cut the Bruins lead to one, due to a misplay by Tukka Rask behind the net, and a wonderful feed over by Voracek.

While killing Rinaldo’s five-minute penalty, Chris Kelly deflected Loui Eriksson’s shot past Mason to put the Bruins ahead, 3-2, with 15:29 left in the second period.

It came despite the Bruins skating shorthanded after Zac Rinaldo was given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct on a hit to Flyers center Sean Couturier along the boards at the end of the first.

“Well, we hadn’t won in Boston since 2011, so I guess we’re changing how we play”, Giroux said.

“It was a big moment, ” Mason said.

“We’ve got to find that balance between the two of them, and right now we haven’t found that”.

A couple minutes later, Neuvirth’s shutout streak ended at 145:33. The Bruins opted to give him the morning off after the birth of his first child Wednesday.
