President Xi Jinping’s state visit has cemented the UK’s position as China’s “best partner in the West”, George Osborne declared as he defended ministers’ failure to address human rights and other concerns in public.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ended his state visit to Britain after being greeted by hundreds of enthusiastic and well-organized well-wishers in the northwest England city of Manchester. Plus, China has also been blamed for harming United Kingdom steel with cheap imports.

Xi’s trip to Britain, which included a trip to the pub with Cameron, has gone down well in China. While the small United Kingdom market isn’t of much interest to China, the Bank of England was the first G7 central bank to sign a swap agreement with China’s central bank; Chinese commercial banks recently sold offshore yuan-denominated bonds in the City; and on October 20th, the first full day of Mr. Xi’s visit, China sold its first sovereign bond in London, worth over $4 billion, reported the Economist.

“Trade takes priority over basic human rights, and exiled protesters with legitimate grievances with the Beijing government are now no longer safe even the democracies that gave them refuge”, it said, describing Britain’s actions as “shameful”.

The state-of-the-art training facility includes a 7,000-capacity stadium and 16 football pitches that can cater for more than 450 players.

Xi inducted former City player Sun Jihai into the museum’s Hall of Fame, in recognition of his role enhancing the popularity of English football in China.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak hosted the tour and talked Mr Xi through television footage of Aguero’s last-gasp victor in the 3-2 victory against Queens Park Rangers which secured the club’s first Premier League title in 2012.

During the visit, the two countries lifted their ties to “a global comprehensive strategic partnership for the 21st century” and agreed that “this visit opens a golden era in China-UK relations featuring enduring, inclusive and win-win cooperation”.

Education partnerships, including schools and universities, were also announced.

Before flying home Friday Xi had lunch with businesspeople and civic leaders and visited a soccer academy in Manchester.
