Multiple reports state one of those people released by a sanctuary city include 45 year-old Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez. No Democrat has won a statewide election in Louisiana since 2008.

“This bill isn’t meant to solve the problem – but rather to demonize immigrants and appease the angry, anti-immigrant, Donald Trump-Steve King wing of the Republican Party”, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said then, referencing Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), a vocal border security hawk.

Hundreds of cities, including New Orleans, have adopted such policies. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) took to the Senate floor on Tuesday to oppose a Republican attempt to what she said would unfairly penalize hundreds of cities and local jurisdictions across the country by stripping them of key federal funding and preventing local law enforcement officials from using commonsense approaches to protect their communities. Before Senate Democrats blocked its passage on Tuesday, the White House threatened to veto the legislation if it made its way to President Barack Obama’s desk.

The bill was an attempt to force cities like San Francisco to do more to comply with federal immigration enforcement. Two Republicans did not vote for the bill and neither of them were Sen.

South Carolina Republican Senator and presidential candidate Lindsey Graham was noticeably absent from the vote, but a spokesman told TheDCNF he would have supported the motion to proceed had he been in Washington.

Senator Alexander voted in June 2013 in favor of legislation to fix our immigration system.

Martinez says while the measure to declare San Antonio to be a “Sanctuary City” is not ready to be introduced in the City Council, Council is set to hear from Police officials next week on what their policy is regarding immigration law enforcement.

Earlier this week, Senate Democrats successfully blocked a law that would have cracked down on “sanctuary cities”! Edwards has said that decision should be left to the city.

But Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, a GOP rival in the governor’s race, tweeted after the vote: “Sen”. Vitter proved that he’s unable to deliver yet again. We can not let “fear drive our policymaking”.

The legislation is supported by National Association of Police Organizations, the National Sheriffs Association, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, the global Union of Police Associations, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, and the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

“This bill does nothing more than instigate fear and divide our nation”, Bob Menendez, D-New Jersey, said on the Senate floor Tuesday.

Most Democrats have said that Steinle’s death, although tragic, should not mean jurisdictions should be forced to change policies that local officials say make immigrants more likely to cooperate with police.

“In a few form” is not exactly reassuring when a few sanctuary cities defy ICE detainer requests for immigrants who are here illegally and have serious criminal records.

Supervisor David Campos resolution affirming San Francisco's status as a'sanctuary city was approved by the Board of Supervisors unanimously on Tuesday
