AAP says Delhi sanitation strike over, union says no
The central government controlled Delhi Development Corporation (DDA) owes Rs 1550 crore to the three MCDs, which is one of the major reasons apart from financial corruption in the MCDs for their grave financial crisis.

“Due to adamant nature of the Delhi government, the sanitation workers sat on a 14-day strike in June”. While BJP, which is the ruling party in the corporations, claims that the AAP government is not releasing funds, the latter cited BJP’s inefficiency in boosting the corporations’ revenue. “It would be better if Mr. Kejriwal, in place of playing petty politics, orders payment of dues to the civic agencies in the interest of the people of Delhi”.
“Referring to a recent meeting between the three mayors and the deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Mayor Subhash Arya said the AAP government is not interested in honestly resolving the issue”.
“Often the municipal corporations delay paying monthly salaries to Safai Karmcharis (sanitation workers) which leads to threats of strikes by them”.
The Central government’s response to this protest was recorded in a statement made BJP president Satish Upadhyay “The Delhi government is not releasing funds for salaries”.
Urging the Lt Governor to look into the matter, the CM asked him to give suitable instructions to DDA to clear all outstanding dues to the MCDs at the earliest.
MCD sanitation workers called off their three-day long strike on Sunday following an assurance from Delhi Government.
“The authorities have agreed on releasing the remaining funds for the (current) financial year 2016 before December”, Pandey said in a series of tweets. “The decision to call off strike was also taken in view of the approaching Diwali festival”, Sanjay Gehlot, Swatantra Mazdoor Vikas Sanyukt Morcha chief said.

AAP said that MCD workers were also peeved at DDA for allegedly holding back huge sums of money it owed to MCD.
