Israeli army: Palestinian stabs Israeli, is shot dead

Residency status allows people in Palestinian neighbourhoods to move freely throughout Israel, unlike the population of the West Bank who require special permits.

The official said the Palestinian leadership could not present such arrangements as a diplomatic achievement to its public in light of the violent discontent and Israeli crackdown in the West Bank and the Palestinian neighborhoods of Jerusalem.

“The assailant stabbed the Israeli in the neck, wounding him severely”.

The attack, which took place at the Beit Einun junction, north of Hebron, was the latest in a series of almost a month of Palestinian attacks, many of them in and around the flashpoint city.

A Palestinian suspect was shot and killed after stabbing an Israeli settler in Hebron on Monday, Israel’s army and media report. In the past five weeks, 10 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks, mostly stabbings, while 51 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, including 30 said by Israel to be attackers and the rest in clashes.

The official, however, said there was no discussion of the matter at the forum and Netanyahu did not ask that it be included on the agenda of a future meeting. There are all sorts of possibilities. Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of the state they seek to establish in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
