With the help of sketchy details and pictures they displayed and broadcast the information through media and by those advertaisments four families approached the ministry of external affairs from Punjab, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar claiming the mute girl is their child.
According to AIIMS spokesperson Dr Amit Gupta, a panel of doctors from the institute have collected Geeta’s DNA samples, which will be sent to the AIIMS forensic lab for necessary tests and the results will be known in a week or so.
Pakistan worldwide Airlines flight PK 272 carrying 23-year-old Geeta from Karachi landed at the Indira Gandhi global Airport at around 10:30 pm where she was given a warm welcome. An emotional Janardhan Mahato said that the DNA tests will prove that she is his daughter.
“She is my daughter, it doesn’t matter what they are saying”. Geeta will be kept in this institution till her real family is found. Geeta, who wandered over one of the world’s most militarised borders, arrived home on Monday but failed to recognise the family she has identified from photographs. “We want to meet her. Wanted to welcome her properly. But after meeting the Mahato family, she could not recognize them”, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said at a press conference alongside Geeta.
“On October 26, we will be bringing Geeta back to India. Then I realised that she is not Fatima but Geeta”, Bilquis Bano said in a press conference.
Geeta was then taken to Edhi Foundation where she lived for over seven years.
