Illuminate, meanwhile, stretched out on the all-weather in the hands of Frankie Dettori ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday. He looked like Pharoah. She came into the Distaff with a narrow loss to Got Lucky in the Grade I Spinster Stakes at Keeneland on October 4. Leading sire Tapit tops all individual stallions with nine pre-entered horses. “She’s won more than $3.1 million and she’ll make a good broodmare”. “It’s a long run to the first turn”.
According to a Breeders’ Cup Ltd. press release, 32 of this year’s pre-entries are based outside North America, down from last year’s 38.
Gleneagles is 16-1 to win the Classic after his lifeless run in defeat at Ascot this month.
They were there to eat free cheese and crackers and to find out where the horses will start in Saturday’s $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic here.
The charismatic Triple Crown victor was installed as the 6-5 morning-line favorite in the 11/4-mile Classic.
While there appears to be only a slight chance American Pharoah won’t be named Horse of the Year, Golden Horn already locked up the European title regardless of his finish in Saturday’s $3 million Turf on the strength of victories in the Irish and Epsom Derbies and the Arc de Triomphe. But for horse racing fans, it’s Christmas. Honor Code will break from the No. 9 spot, with Tonalist drawing the rail.
