And a spokesman from RAF Lakenheath told the BBC that the jet had gone down four miles from RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed officers at the scene are dealing with one fatality.
The as yet unidentified pilot died after ejecting from the plane, police confirmed.
Witnesses claim seeing emergency service personnel gathered around a parachute roughly “a mile-and-a-half” from where the jet came down.
The post from its US Air Force account showed a new F-35 fighter trailing streaks of fire like those created by the time-travelling DeLorean vehicle in the hit 1980s movie franchise.
The force said one person was on board the jet and added that they believe there was just one person on board.
The identity of the pilot killed in the crash hasn’t been released, and it is unknown if the pilot was able to eject from his aircraft.
Officials are investigating to determine what caused the crash to occur.
“It had taken off from RAF Lakenheath”.
It is the third recent incident involving RAF Lakenheath, which hosts the US Air Force’s 48th Fighter Wing.
