Alabama teacher faces investigation for wearing blackface Halloween costume

After a meeting with the Decatur City Board of Education called a meeting Monday morning (Oct. 26.), Morrow apologized for his actions. A representative for the school district read the apology during a press conference on Monday.

Kanye West appears to be the costume of choice for accidental racists this year and Alabama teacher Heath Morrow is the next contestant to center himself in the center of controversy thanks to likening himself to Yeezus.

The picture that went viral features both Morrow and his wife. Heath Morrow’s wife Shannon not-so-smartly posted the photo on Facebook of the two of them dressed as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (holding a timely “Kanye for Prez 2020” sign, natch) with the caption, “Haha a few people thought Heath was really a black man”.

“I would like to first apologize for my error in judgement [sic], but my intentions were not malicious or directed toward any certain group of people”, he wrote. He added he doesn’t teach or condone his children acting in the manner he had, calling the costume an “error in judgment”. I can assure you, knowing him, that’s from his heart and what we want to do is to get back to having school.

According to local reports, Morrow has apologized, and the district is investigating the situation – but no word yet on his employment status with the school. “They should have looked at Chief Jackson’s qualifications”.

The photo of Morrow has caused a strong reaction on social media. The web site black-face.com offers a very comprehensive history of offensive racial images, including minstrel shows.

Before the letter was read, Nichols said the school system was sad by the actions that took away from the focus of the schools.
