At Google, Horell took a ride in a self-driving auto, tried on a virtual reality headset, and saw other technologies being developed by the creative and innovative minds at the company headquarters.
Thanks to “Wish Of A Lifetime”, a non-profit that grants wishes to seniors, the nonagenarian got a special VIP tour of Google’s Mountain View, California, campus.
Here’s the full video of Horrell enjoying her visit to Google. Since she wanted to see the future, Google’s headquarters was the ideal place for her wish to come true.
Google has granted the wish of a 97-year-old who wanted to see the future.
Born near the end of World War I, on a farm located in rural Montana, Olive Horrell comes from a time where she had no access to electricity or indoor plumbing, and a fully-functioning electronic television was a far-fetched idea.
“Push a button and you have history right in front of you”, she said.
For three years, Horrell thought about her wish of seeing the future and visiting Google after she heard about the Wish for a Lifetime program, according to CNN. “This is very mind-boggling for me”. The visit was an answer to Horrell’s wish, granted by an organization called Wish of a Lifetime.

“You’re such a gentle soul, it’s just been lovely to meet you”. “Most of the time we aren’t seen, as you know”. Olive Horrell is 97-years old and she had always dreamt of being an engineer, but it seems that back in the day when gender stereotypes were more commonplace, Horrell’s dad told her that it would be impossible as they would never hire a woman.
