May 15: A 30-year-old man was bitten by a shark while swimming off Sullivans Island, S.C. A spokesman for the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune said the victim was brought into the hospital late Saturday night.
Emergency management directors in both Onslow and Pender counties said they neither received reports nor rendered aid to anyone claiming a shark bite on Saturday.
The Marine is the eighth person to be bitten by a shark in North Carolina coastal waters, and the second in Surf City since June 11th.
The most recent was Wednesday when a 68-year-old man was injured off Ocracoke Island.
Two separate attacks were reported only one hour apart on June 14 near Oak Island, North Carolina.
On June 11, a 13-year-old girl suffered minor injures after a shark bit her boogie board near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

The injuries are considered non-life threatening.
