Hoffenheim name youngest ever Bundesliga head coach at 28

Gisdol 46, took over as coach of Hoffenheim in April 2013, and managed to save them from being relegated several weeks later. His successor, Stevens, narrowly avoided relegation with VfB Stuttgart past year and it seems as if his role will be to stabalise the Sinsheim side this term.

Not only is the decision unusual, coming just a day after Steven’s appointment was announced, but many will see it as risky, as Nagelsmann will be just 28 years old when he takes the post, and he is still working on the coaching badges needed to take charge of a Bundesliga club.

“Despite the current hard situation, it is important now to set an example for the future”, said Hoffenheim CEO Dr Peter Gorlich.

However, the the solution is only temporary and Julian Nagelsmann has signed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga strugglers for the start of next season, the club have today confirmed.

Nagelsmann was briefly an assistant coach during the 2012-13 campaign, but he will remain with the Under-19s until the end of the season as he continues studying for his senior coaching licence.

“I am looking forward to this exciting task and I thank you in advance for the trust placed in me and the opportunity”, Nagelsmann said.

Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel worked with a young Nagelsmann during his time in charge of Augsburg II and offered a glowing endorsement of his credentials.

Tuchel told a news conference: “He’s a very inquisitive and very hardworking young coach”.
