Three Palestinians shot dead in West Bank

Israeli troops shot and killed Tuesday night a Palestinian in the West Bank city of Hebron, after he allegedly attacked a soldier, a military spokesperson said, as a month-long spate of Israeli-Palestinian violence was showing no signs of slowing down.

Meantime, Palestinian factions across al-Khalil have called for the “rally of anger” in solidarity with the families of those killed by Israeli forces on allegations of attacking Israelis.

They said that the soldiers declared the area a closed military zone and blocked arrival of ambulances to evacuate the body of the killed Palestinian man. The cabinet made a decision to delay the return of the bodies until calm is restored in the West Bank amid fears the massive funerals for the attackers, who the Palestinians view as martyrs, would incite further attacks against Israel.

According to the Palestinian Campaign to bring back dead Palestinians, the Israeli authorities are still holding the bodies of 17 Palestinians killed in the last wave of tension that broke out in early October.

The army would not elaborate on the condition of the Palestinian, but the soldier was unharmed. In all, according to unofficial data, 58 Palestinians have been killed since October 1.

The ministry said in a statement that the two men’s identities are unknown.

The soldiers stormed the administrator’s office and threatened to close the school if the stone throwing continued, the teacher said.

Gush Etzion Regional Council head Davidi Perl, who arrived at the scene, said the attack would not deter area residents from continuing with their normal lives.

This was the second such incident on Route 60 this week.

Several hours before the attack, a soldier was moderately wounded in a stabbing by two assailants at the Etzion junction, between Hebron and Jerusalem.
