Super Mario Maker Gets Checkpoints in Free Update
Checkpoints are hugely important in all video games, and “Super Mario” games have had them for years. This addition makes courses more dynamic, allowing for creative tweaks to level design. Now players won’t get inundated with extra mushrooms when they are already big.

The feature is a frequent request among Super Mario Maker’s playerbase, and will grant designers greater flexibility in terms of difficulty and challenge. Meanwhile, Event Courses offer up creations from Nintendo’s partners and special guests; the first of them will be from Facebook, but it won’t be the last thanks to a regularly-updating list.
Right, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, did you know that “Super Mario Maker” has a secret game hidden within its level editor? Nintendo noted that the update will change how players receive power-ups based on the current state of Mario.
Super Mario Maker has won justified acclaim from critics and fans the world over, but it’s not quite a ideal Mario construction kit.

Of course, the November 4th update is set to include more than just one tool. Engineers Doug Strait and Roy McElmurry presented their level to a panel of judges from Nintendo and Facebook, including Bill Trinen, Krysta Yang, Rachel Kroll, Ime Archibong, and Scott Moffitt. The numbers have probably doubled by now and Wii U sales have increased these last few weeks because of the game. This can be discouraging during long levels, as players must repeat previously completed challenges before they can get another shot at later segments. The checkpoints are the iconic flags that can be found in games like New Super Mario Bros.
