Kitchen gadget promises homebrew beer at touch of a button
The team behind the gadget launched a campaign on Kickstarter to secure funding and have already surpassed their $200,000 (£130,600) target.

Speaking about the project, the creators of the Pico said: “We started PicoBrew in 2010 to pursue the vision of enabling craft brewing at home leveraging new smart appliances in the same way the automatic espresso maker has enabled home espresso production”. “When we released our first product, Zymatic in 2013, we delivered a product that nobody believed was possible: the world’s first fully automatic countertop beer-brewing machine”. The packs contain the right amount of beer ingredients like hops and barley and other beer ingredients to brew beer.
The Pico, which works in a similar way to a domestic espresso machine, using pre-mixed sachets or “PicoPaks” to which one only needs to add water, is being put into production in the United States via a Kickstarter campaign.
Seattle-based startup PicoBrew is on a mission to democratize beer making, and as part of an ongoing effort to make homebrewing easier and more accessible, the company has recently unveiled a new micro-brewer dubbed Pico – a smaller, simpler version of the company’s original homebrew machine.
Pico has already signed-up a few 50 of the world’s most interesting craft breweries from Boston to Beijing to supply ingredients to home brewers. “We’re excited to help both craft breweries squeezed by this increasing beer market consolidation, and craft beer lovers who can’t get the beer selection and quality they crave”. But instead of getting a freshly brewed single-serving of coffee, users get a big batch of craft beer. If Kickstarter’s campaign for the device all goes well, Picos will be out and ready in springtime 2016.
