Following the school’s worst-ever loss, a 58-0 thumping to No. 3 Clemson, the Miami Hurricanes have fired head coach Al Golden.

Former Baltimore Ravens safety and surefire Hall of Famer Ed Reed made a shocking statement today that he would be interested in becoming the Miami Hurricanes next head coach.
Finally, this season after losses to Cincinnati and Florida State warmed up the hot seat, Miami seemed to give up after falling behind against the Tigers.
The worst loss in Miami’s storied history was Coach Al Golden’s last game with the Hurricanes.
In the spring, Coley was excited about using Rosier as a package quarterback, and spent long hours preparing him to run the offense if Kaaya went down. All Golden did was continue a trend of mediocrity that has been a Miami staple under Randy Shannon, and Coker’s final three years.
James answered that question Sunday.
Winning is possible at Miami, but it requires a coach who fits the personality of the football program and can sell a team that otherwise has disadvantages compared to peers.
The Hurricanes AD will have his work cut out for him.
The loss broke a 71-year old record for the worst loss in Miami history and the school should just cut ties right now and begin looking for his replacement to take Miami back to where the fans, administration and former players believe they belong, which is among the best in the nation. A new head coach is step one of fixing the turmoil in South Beach. He’s a connection to the Miami legacy, having been a tight end on the 1987 and 1989 National Championship team. He also has former head coaching experience, albeit a brief and ugly 4-12 stint with the Cleveland Browns.
LaVaar, a proud Miami graduate, and his staff were studying up on Lake Gibson for Friday’s game that will determine the district champion when he was informed of the coaching change. In addition to fixing his team’s product on the field, Scott is working on the human element and the emotional state of his players. As the head coach of the FIU Panthers, Cristobal had back-to-back bowl seasons before being firing in 2012 after a 3-9 season. It’s not like Miami can’t be great again – just put up another wall around Howard Schnellenberger’s “State of Miami” and keep all the big-time talents at home. In his previous stint with the Canes from 1995-2000, Davis posted a 51-20 overall record, won three Big East titles, and was responsible for returning the program to dominance.
But coach Mike Leach is turning things around on the field.
Shawn Elliott has the South Carolina job now that Spurrier resigned, Danny Barrett was promoted after O’Leary retired, and at Miami it’s Larry Scott who will finish the season after Golden was sacked.
At 7-0, the first time since 2011 when the Tigers started 8-0, the Tigers have won 10 consecutive games and are serving notice that giving this team extra motivation is not advisable. Alabama requires a more old school personality as coach.
Other recruits had more to say. His success at the college level didn’t translate to the National Football League scene, but Schiano knows his way around southern Florida and could provide immediate help with the defense.
