Prince Harry visits DC to promote games for wounded armed service personnel

Later Wednesday, the prince will visit with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.

In honor of the 2016 Invictus Games, Britain’s Prince Harry is joining forces with Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden to meet with wounded military members today at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

The UK’s Prince Harry will be spending time in the Washington area Wednesday.

The Invictus Games is an worldwide Paralympic-style event for injured and sick service personnel.

Harry’s first stop, though, is Fort Belvoir in suburban Virginia, where his visit will include stopping by art therapy and music rooms for the troops, and observing wheelchair basketball. They’ll meet with wounded military veterans in rehab programs.

Later in the day, Harry will attend an Invictus Games board meeting and reception at the British Ambassador’s residence in Washington.

“The idea for the Invictus Games came when Prince Harry watched the US-based Warrior Games in Colorado in May 2013 so he is delighted that the U.S. will continue the Invictus Games legacy next year”.

The Invictus Games Orlando 2016 will take place from May 8 through 12.

The First and Second Ladies’ visit also aims to promote Joining Forces, which calls on Americans to support United States service personnel, veterans and their families through health, education, and employment opportunities.
