Leah Remini talks Tom Cruise, Scientology in new ’20/20′ interview

In the three-minute 2008 parody, the dad of two mimicked a past interview Cruise did about Scientology, even imitating the star’s famous cackle. “When it was time to disperse, I literally was the first at valet”. In a Tuesday interview on the podcast, “Allegedly with Theo Von & Matthew Cole Weiss”, O’Connell reveals he’s avoided the actor for years and also discussed getting drunk at a Scientology party.

“I don’t think there will be a confrontation, but it’s just, why poke that bear?”

“It was rude what I did. I’m 41. I don’t know if Scientology is right in my wheelhouse”, he explained.

O’Connell said he had friends who joined and confessed to being tempted into joining once.

“Everyone was walking in the gates, and you’re sort of drunkenly stumbling and you’re happy to not have to drive anywhere”, he continued. The church’s mindset is such it interprets an attack on Cruise as an attack on the church, she says.

The church has been highly criticized worldwide with many calling it a scam, since it charges its members to pay a commission, with fees and courses increasing when you get further up the hierarchy.

Actress Leah Remini is talking about Scientology and Tom Cruise in a new interview with ABC’s 20/20.

However Scientology officials are “in no doubt” Scientology will be cleared, and say they welcome the opportunity to have the rights of their members recognised, and to denounce the “serious judicial abuses” of the past 18 years. The actress made a break from the church back in 2013, slamming the door on her way out in an interview with People magazine in which she described her reasons for leaving.

Instead, Twitter is atwitter about Monday night’s episode, when she freaked out and fell down after one of the pro-dancers, dressed as an evil clown, sneaked up behind her during the show’s Halloween episode.

“It’s a privilege to call yourself a Scientologist, and it’s something that you have to earn”, Cruise said in 2004.
