It was royal movie night for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The London premiere of Spectre, the latest James Bond film, had a special dose of royalty with Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry all in attendance.

Fans who lined the red carpet not only got to see Daniel Craig – resplendent in a dark tuxedo and earthy smile – and glamorous co-stars Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci, but could also catch a glimpse of Prince William, his wife Kate, and Prince Harry, still sporting a beard.

The royals met with the movie’s director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli ahead of the screening.

“That was a lovely feeling that they would trust me”.

“I did at one point try to sign an autograph for the crowd but they didn’t take me up on it – they weren’t impressed at all”, he said.

Among those that came to the spectacular were regular Bond actors like Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw.

Spectre is the 24th film in the franchise and, as with the long-running Doctor Who with which it shares a tradition of replacing the title character, the Bond films are subject to constant speculation about the main role being played by a white male.

“It’s just fantastic to see everybody out tonight”, said Daniel Craig as he arrived on the Spectre red carpet that snaked further than the eye could see around the Royal Albert Hall.

Craig also thanked fans who had waited hours for the cast, saying: “Thank you for everyone who has made it out tonight”.

Famous faces on the carpet included Dames Shirley Bassey and Joan Collins, Hobbit star Martin Freeman, musician Will.i.am and former Bond girl Maryam D’Abo from The Living Daylights.

They were joined by Christoph Waltz, the Academy Award victor recruited to play the villain, who challenges Bond in a series of exotic locales.
