Olivia Wilde wants to create a female superhero
She’s also known for playing nuanced and flawed characters, something that she doesn’t believe female heroes are often allowed to be in superhero narratives.

In a recent interview with BuzzFeed published earlier this year, Wilde touched on the issue of sexism in Hollywood against not only actresses but directors also. She felt that there is something to be said for having a female director who is working with a female superhero in order to offer more complexity to the character.
In an ideal world, Olivia would like to see a female superhero written and portrayed in the way Robert Downey Jr. presented Iron Man.
As such, it was no surprise when Olivia Wilde playfully joked that she was ready to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Captain Marvel, something that will have the fans buzzing.
It seems like we’re finally living our dream of have female superheroes on the small and big screen – well at least the small screen for now.
Ronda Rousey, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jennifer Lawrence have been attached to the role; however, Marvel is yet to announce the one who will don Danvers’ suit. However, what she’s seeing in female superheroes is that they are made to be flawless to show that they are powerful, that to have a kick-ass power is to a lack a certain nuance. And her Twitter shows that she and her Meadowland director Reed Morano would be totally down to take the Captain Marvel reins. Unlike most of the actresses who have expressed interest though, Wilde isn’t campaigning for the part; in fact, Wilde isn’t even usually interested in superhero films.
Wilde isn’t alone in her sentiments.
As a big fan of superhero films, Wilde said she has so much respect for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
MCU is still dominated by male superheroes. The only character of significance, thus far, has been Black Widow in The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, played by Scarlett Johansson.
Captain Marvel will open in cinemas on March 8, 2019.

“I would love to create a female Marvel character who is just as unexpected and complex as a few of the male characters as Iron Man”, she said. It would be nice to give a real history, to give a real, tangible background to this character.
