But there was also a tragic loss.
Edinson Volquez, the starting pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, received the saddest news of his life right before Game 1 of World Series against New York Mets starts.
ESPN Deportes first reported just before game time the death of Volquez’s father, Daniel, at 63, which prompted much internal discussion at Fox, including input from two key members with print journalism backgrounds in analyst Tom Verducci and reporter Ken Rosenthal.

He acknowledged that he feel more comfortable at home, but Royals manager Ned Yost insisted that history didn’t play a role in setting up the rotation so Cueto potentially would pitch his two starts at Kauffman Stadium.
