Jets release P Weatherford

Coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Owusu wasn’t diagnosed with a concussion until the team flew to New Jersey after Sunday’s loss in New England. Bowles said the Jets will see how Quigley feels at practice Wednesday and make a decision on the position when he’s healthy. He is one of the Jets’ most important players. These are the Jets’ only back-to-back road games of the season.

Steve Weatherford’s tenure with the New York Jets lasted a total of only four days, but he can say that his stint with the team was definitely worth his time. Bowles said he’s not sure if Mangold will be able to play in Oakland. It’s going to be very interesting to see what kid of gameplan Bowles and his staff come up with considering the Raiders defense has been one of the best in the league against the run, but among the worst versus the pass.

Weatherford, who played for the Jets from 2009-10, was in a commercial break Saturday on 98.7 ESPN New York when the team called and offered him a job. As for the man who has an island named after him, Revis enters Week 8 as the Jets leader in interceptions with 3, which is also good enough for fourth-best in the NFL. Pryor left Sunday’s game and didn’t return.

Weatherford said he began transitioning to a post-football life after he was cut by the Giants, and it showed Sunday, when he averaged just 40.3 yards on four punts, two of which traveled fewer than 35 yards in the air. Weatherford said he hadn’t kicked a football since the previous Sunday, when he made a handful of punts with his 7-year-old son handing him the football.

Dakota Dozier replaced Mangold late in the game after he suffered the injury and is likely to be the start if Mangold is out Sunday, with Johnson being there for depth.

Weatherford said he had a blast, also acknowledging, “It was a rough, rough day for me”.
