Khan hopeful on Pacquiao showdown

Manny Pacquiao has yet to pick an opponent in his comeback fight early next year in what could be the Filipino boxer’s farewell bout.

However, Pacquiao maintains he could yet face up to his longtime rival again, per Ben Thompson of FightHype.com: “I don’t know yet who’s my opponent next but we’re still negotiating right now about the rematch with Floyd Mayweather so hoping for that”.

Nothing is cast in stone for the meantime, but Arum, definitely, has to deliver in terms of choosing the right opponent for Pacquiao’s last fight. However, according to Nick Giongco of the Manila Bulletin, talks of a Pacman-Floyd rematch could still materialise as the 20,000-seater MGM-AEG nears completion. Fletcher noted how Pacquiao accidentally bumped into Mayweather during an National Basketball Association game in Miami, where they exchanged mobile numbers and eventually started the deal for their superfight.

Promoter Bob Arum has confirmed that “Pac-Man” intends to retire from boxing after his next fight, and it appears as though he wants to make it as big as possible before bowing out. Roughly five months before Crawford’s latest triumph, the 28-year-old Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) won an exciting unanimous decision over ballsy New Yorker Chris Algieri on May 29.

Top Rank Promotion’s top brass, Bob Arum, told ESPN that Pacquiao is bent on concentrating in local politics should he win the upcoming 2016 senatorial polls in the Philippines where 12 senate seats are up for grabs.

“I am the front-runner”, Khan is quoted as telling the BBC.

Bradley was awarded a controversial split decision in their 2012 fight that most thought Pacquiao had won, and Pacquiao won a 2014 rematch.

“I did whatever I wanted to do”, Crawford said. “I controlled him. I had no problem moving around”.

MMA fighter BJ Flores believes Amir Khan is getting ahead of himself for being the one to back out of the fight.

Even if Pacquiao and his camp offer a huge fight purse, the 42-year-old Mexican said that it will not matter because he believes his legacy is more important than money.

Pacquiao, 36, is set to bow out of the sport following one of most standout careers in recent times after winning world title belts at eight different weight divisions and earning a massive nine-figure check against Mayweather last spring.
