Tennessee vs. Kentucky Preview

Here are the five players on the Tennessee Vols to watch for when they take on the Wildcats Saturday. The Breeder’s Cup is running for the first time at Keeneland, it’s Halloween in a college town, and the Kentucky-Tennessee game will be in primetime.

“I’m sure they’re very disappointed that they didn’t make a couple of plays to win, but I know what type of team they are regardless of their record”.

But they are meeting a Kentucky Wildcats team that truly believes it is one of the top teams in the SEC this year.

Jones said Justin Martin will start instead of Emmanuel Moseley at cornerback against Kentucky. Texas A&M hosts South Carolina. He gets an A in program management, game planning, recruiting, roster building, and public relations, but he’s rocking a C in actual game day coaching and adjustments. While these numbers seem quite impressive, looking at the players that he has this season shows just how much potential this team has to put up a fight in the rest of the season and in the coming years. If the defense can come up with a few early stops, the offense should be able to keep pace and has done a good job of finishing drives, as the Wildcats have produced points on 23 of 25 trips to the red zone, including 16 touchdowns. “Can score anywhere on the field”.

Scan the top and the bottom of the national rankings of every special teams statistical category, and you’re bound to see Tennessee represented. It will help the Cats to have faced this duel threat quarterback right before they play Joshua Dobbs. Outside linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin is the Vols leading tackler by far, and he’ll be all over the field Saturday, but the other two likely starters at linebacker are boom-or-bust freshmen (Darrin Kirkland, Jr. and Austin Smith). But they do not have the talent to match the Vols man per man. Kentucky is at home.

“He throws the deep ball very, very well”, Jones said. We’re going to need that Saturday night.

Winning out would allow Tennessee to finish 8-4, a major step forward for a team that hasn’t won more than seven games in a season since 2007.

But the Vols are going to arrive angry.

Said receiver Josh Malone-“We’re not even focusing on the schedule”. I think the Vols are good enough to win it by a huge margin, but the injury and let down factors (following a close loss to Alabama) will really come into play.
