Houthi rebels took over Sana, the capital, in September, and the stated goal of the Saudi coalition’s airstrikes has been to restore to power exiled President Abdu Rabu Mansour.
“It is imperative and urgent that humanitarian aid can reach all vulnerable people of Yemen unimpeded and through an unconditional humanitarian pause”, said United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
According to Yemeni sources, over 4,600 people have been killed in the attacks.
“We wrapped up the third visit to Sanaa with some cautious optimism”, Shiekh said before departing from Sanaa worldwide Airport.
As the negotiations have dragged on, the Saudi-led coalition has intensified its airstrikes, including in Sanaa, which has suffered some of the heaviest bombing since the conflict began.
The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information otherwise, say more than 50 civilians were also wounded in the strike Monday in Fayoush, a suburb of the southern port city of Aden.
On Thursday, fighters allied with Hadi killed 15 rebels in an attack on their checkpoints in the country’s southern Abyan province, a military source said.
More than one million people have been displaced since March, joining the more than 300,000 who had been made homeless before the fighting began, and more than 46,000 people have fled Yemen, according to the UNHCR.
“These include violations of the right to life, abduction, ill-treatment, restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, attack against humanitarian workers, medical staff and facilities, as well as journalists and media organizations”, said Pouilly.
Also in the south, residents reported a further 30 killed in a raid they said apparently targeted a Houthi checkpoint on the main road between Aden and Lahj. The ship is operating in the area of the USA Navy’s Fifth Fleet, which is based in Saudi Arabia’s neighbour Bahrain. Sunni Saudi Arabia says it is bombing the Houthis to protect the Yemeni state.
