For what it’s worth, Bovada has set odds of Miami hiring Butch Davis as its next coach at 7/4, the best odds of any candidate listed on the board.

Butch’s comments come after Miami announced on Sunday that coach Al Golden had been fired following the team’s 58-0 loss to Clemson on Saturday, the worst defeat in Miami history.
“Obviously I’d love to be considered for that opportunity and time will tell whether or not that’s a direction that the school would like to go”, Davis said, via the Miami Herald. “When you spend 11 years there, you’ve got an terrible lot invested in the community”.
A faction of the Miami Hurricanes’ fan base may clamor for Davis’ return to Coral Gables, but it’s not like he will get to play in a stadium that bears his own name like Snyder did in Manhattan.
Monday’s interview wasn’t the first time Davis has stated his desire to return to Miami. Another name that has always been tied to the job is Mario Cristobal, a Hurricanes assistant after Davis’ departure who also was head coach at Florida global.
Davis went 51-20 (33-9) in his six years leading the Miami Hurricanes to three Big East Conference Championships, helping restore the program to national prominence.
Though Davis – who coached the Tar Heels from 2007-10 – was cleared of any wrongdoing in North Carolina’s academic misconduct case, it’s uncertain whether Miami would want to hire a coach that has had issues with the NCAA.
Davis joined Miami in 1995 and helped reorient a program that had been somewhat dismantled by NCAA sanctions. Davis did get the Browns into the playoffs in 2002 with a 9-7 record, but the front office of the Browns forced his resignation after a 3-8 start in 2004.

Still, there’s no denying Davis, now a television analyst, wants to return to the sideline. “You’re a Cane for life”.
