Cost of Oklahoma health plans skyrocket in marketplace

This Sunday is the day that folks can begin shopping for health insurance for the coming year.

BREWSTER, NY-On November 1, 2015, open enrollment for New York State’s official health plan exchange begins, featuring a new option called “The Essential Plan”.

The average benchmark plan in metro Phoenix will charge 19 percent more in 2016 compared to this year. Through January 31, uninsured individuals have a three-month window to shop and compare insurance plans and select the plan that best fits your needs. But premiums for benchmark plans will decline by 13 percent in Indiana, 8 percent in Mississippi and 1 percent in Ohio and Maine. The plans also will be available outside the Marketplace. That means your options for plans, doctors and costs could all change, along with the amount of financial help you receive.

For once, the Obama administration and Florida officials are on the same page when it comes to forecasting monthly premiums for health plans sold on the Affordable Care Act’s insurance exchange next year: They’re going up.

If the employee is offered “affordable” health insurance by his or her employer, they must either accept that insurance, buy private insurance elsewhere or pay the penalty for not having creditable coverage ($695 per adult for 2016, $347.50 per child or 2.5 percent of gross income, whichever is greater). The last two months were spent testing the system to ensure Arkansas does not experience the technical problems that plagued the launches of the federal health insurance marketplace and a few exchanges in other states. Average cost without a tax credit was $381.15 per month this year, while the average cost with a tax credit was $173.89.

The improvements in HealthCare.gov announced Friday reflect ongoing efforts by HHS to reduce the overall uninsured rate among Americans by making the site easier to use, and to encourage sign-ups in plans that are most affordable, in the long run, to customers, so that they are less likely to drop out of coverage. The five insurers with plans on the marketplace – AmeriHealth New Jersey, Health Republic, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Oscar, and UnitedHealthcare Oxford – offer a variety of different plans at each level.

The deficient health plans were all found in just nine states, the study says. That may be right, but until it actually happens it’s an argument that with each passing year is increasingly drained of credibility.

If this holds true again, it would be positive for Oscar, which had only 7,899 members in marketplace plans through June 30.

Linda Schwimmer, the president and CEO of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, urged consumers to look beyond the premiums.

“I think we all can agree that no one should have to worry about a broken bone or an unexpected illness that could lead to bankruptcy”, said Kyle Simon of the health consumer group Florida CHAIN.

“Are we going to have bumps in this enrollment?”

Subsidies, in the form of tax credits, tend to smooth out large differences in premiums from state to state, according to the new website. This information is also available through the marketplace site or through insurers’ own websites.

“Not only will rate changes vary considerably from one carrier to another, there’s a new carrier on the exchange and more plans will be available for 2016”.

“We were definitely surprised”, Dorner said. The consumers will be advised to check the accuracy of the information with the plans. “Make sure that factors into your cost equation”.
