PM announces relief package for KP quake victims

The premier stayed in the Governor’s House, where he was given a detailed briefing by the K-P PDMA on the damages and destruction caused and the ongoing relief activities. The PDMA added total 1,456 people were injured.

The chief minister and Imran Khan were informed by the PDMA officials at Alpuri, Shangla that death toll in Pakhtunkhwa has reached to 185 while over 2000 were injured, and Shangla was the worst hit district of the province where 38 persons were killed due to quake.

As per reported injured persons, the official said, 165 wounded in Peshawar, 80 in Shangla, one in Charsadda, 95 in Buner, 161 in Swat, 200 in Chitral, 14 in Nowshera, 85 in Abbottabad, 101 in Mardan, 18 in Torghar, 19 in Swabi, 78 in Malakand, 14 in Manshera, 248 in Dir Lower, 147 in Dir Upper, three Lower Kohistan.

According to Director of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Mushtaq Shah, mid-intensity aftershocks are expected to continue for the next two to three days in the affected areas. They also expressed sympathies with the quake victims and their families and assured to take every possible measure for their rehabilitation.

The PDMA has dispatched 1000 food packages to district Chitral for the affectees of the natural disaster.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in consultation with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government announced on Wednesday a relief package for quake victims.

Moreover, all the revenue staff has been directed to send immediate reports on the loss of lives and damage to properties to their respective district administrations and district control rooms. The political administration has accelerated relief and rehabilitation operation in the affected agencies while injured with critical wounds of Bajaur Agency was shifted to Peshawar hospitals for treatment. “C-130 left for Chitral with seven tons of ration, 2,500 ready meals, additional medical teams, 1,000 tents and blankets”.

He said distribution of the funds would kick off next Monday after a verification process and the distribution work would be completed by Thursday.

Federal and Provincial Governments expedited relief operations for assistance of the affected people. The information minister said relief and rescue operation was under way in the affected districts.
