National Football League investigators spoke to police about Manziel incident

Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel met with National Football League investigators after practice Wednesday, The Plain Dealer newspaper reported.

A source close to the situation said that the Browns want Manziel’s relationship with Crowley to end, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora. After that, things with Manziel started to change a bit which culminated in him being involved in an incident last week involving the police.

“There’s a sense of urgency to it”, Pettine said.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel’s domestic dispute investigation will reportedly be resolved by the end of this week.

“In his verbal statement, Mr. Manziel advised that he and Ms. Crowley were in Downtown Cleveland drinking earlier in the day, around 2 o’clock”, the report says. Simply wishing for Manziel to break up with Crowley is a naive, risky solution to a hard, complicated problem – one that the Browns don’t seem to be interested in working through.

Sounds like heresy in an era when running backs sometimes don’t go anywhere in the opening 32 picks, especially ones coming off knee surgery and with uncertain prospects for when they might make their National Football League debut. Manziel was not disciplined by the team and has remained McCown’s primary backup, dressing for games as he normally would.

Pettine said Wednesday that the league wants to handle it quickly. He was listed on the injury report with the right shoulder and ribs.

“He’s improving. He’s truly day to day”, Pettine said. Before filling in for McCown in the fourth quarter last week, Manziel had not played since Week 2.

“We’ll see if he can go (Thursday)”. I still expect Jeremy Maclin to dominate targets but he could be viable down the stretch as the Chiefs might start giving him more playing time just to see what they really have.

McCown was sacked four times by the Rams, who also got away with a late shove out of bounds on the quarterback, sending him onto a concrete track, where he slipped and slammed into a cement barrier. He also hurt his elbow banging into a stadium wall while unable to stop after being pushed out of bounds after a scramble to the sideline.

“We need to do better across the board”, Fisher said. “But we have to know that we have to protect this guy”. Gipson and Robertson have recovered enough from ankle afflictions to return to the field on Wednesday. Rookie RB Duke Johnson was excused from practice for personal reasons. Gipson has missed the last three games, while Robertson has been out for the past four contests. There’s not many people that can run like that, that have ever played this game.

“Could be”, he said.
