He was described as a “gentle and caring pupil” by his headteacher, who said his death had left the school “totally devastated”.
“I know that Anna Muirhead and her team at the school are putting everything possible in place to ensure pupils, parents and staff are provided with the support necessary at such a hard time”.
Bailey Gwynne was described as gentle and caring. Thoughts go out to family and friends.
This is a shocking and extraordinary incident for Aberdeen and firstly our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who has sadly lost his life today.
He is assisting police with their enquiries.
“As this is a live police investigation we are unable to comment further at this stage”.
Cults is regarded as one of Aberdeen’s more affluent suburbs.
And thousands are supporting RIP Facebook tribute pages to the murdered teenager.
“That stuff doesn’t happen, you think”.
Teachers and fellow pupils desperately fought in vain to stop the bleeding but Bailey died a short time later at the city’s Royal Infirmary, sparking a murder investigation by police.
“This is a shocking and upsetting incident, the impact of which will be felt throughout Cults Academy and throughout the local community, and no doubt further afield”. “Nothing like this has happened before, I am sure there’s been altercations with teenage boys but nothing like this”.
Angela Constance, Education Secretary, said: “I’m deeply saddened by this awful news and my thoughts are with the pupil’s family and friends”.
Aberdeen City Council later said that the school would be closed tomorrow.
A 16-year-old pupil has died after being stabbed at a Scottish school.
In March 1996, Thomas Hamilton walked into the Dunblane Primary School and killed sixteen children and one teacher before committing suicide. “We weren’t close but I saw him on a daily basis and knew he was a sweet kid with good intentions”.
It is the largest state school in the country.
She told BBC Radio Scotland: “School safety is always reviewed”.
