The hunt for the killers of Karlie Pearce-Stevenson and her daughter Khandalyce turned to Canberra’s north this week, after SA police disclosed the pair were last seen in Charnwood.

The man, a 41-year-old inmate at Cessnock prison, was being interviewed by detectives at Cessnock police station on Wednesday night and was expected to be charged with murder.

Inquiries into the brutal murder of Pearce-Stevenson’s two-year-old daughter continue.

Khandalyce’s remains were found near a suitcase alongside a South Australian highway 1200km away and five years later.

Astonishing revelations have emerged about the murders of the Australian mother and her young daughter whose bodies were found years apart and in different states.

Pearce-Stevenson’s account was accessed until March 2012 and was closed due to inactivity in 2015.

At least one of the people involved in the fraud is believed to be responsible for the murders, with two female suspects and one male in the police sights.

“It is the fact someone assumed her identity to take money out of her account nearby that is so unsettling”, he said.

Police have also revealed that Pearce-Stevenson’s phone was used for three years after her death to provide “proof of life” to her family and friends. “Her telephone, her bank accounts, her Centrelink and family payments”. The financial investigation has only strengthened their focus.

It also emerged a woman impersonated Ms Pearce-Stevenson in a credit union branch and a Centrelink office after her death.
