Chief Gorden Eden, Jr. said in a statement that Officer Daniel Webster died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
After the shooting October 21, Webster was rushed to UNMH where he underwent two emergency surgeries. He had remained in critical condition in UNMH’s Intensive Care Unit ever since.
Webster was shot multiple times, including at least once in the face, in the parking lot of Walgreens at Eubank and Central as he tried to handcuff a man who was riding a motorcycle with a stolen license plate, according to police.
APD said people have been dropping off cards, food and gifts to police sub stations throughout Albuquerque.
“I used to be a police officer and I can’t imagine how hard they have it nowadays, and we just wanted to come by in his honor and drop off a card and give our wishes and prayers to him and his family”, Snowden said.
Lymon is in federal custody on firearms charges in connection with the shooting. Lymon was hospitalized for injuries he suffered when he was apprehended by a police dog Thursday.
