Unbeaten Hawkeyes prepare for stretch run

The 10th ranked Hawkeyes return from a bye week as they get set to host Maryland on Saturday in Big Ten action.

It seems that Maryland has found their quarterback for the remainder of the season, or so it seems. Hills has also thrown for 664 yards and six touchdowns with seven interceptions.

These days, Maryland has turned into a run heavy offense when switching back over to Hills under center because of the quarterback’s ability to scramble and accelerate away from defenders. And Hills’ two-game total of 294 yards is the most since former running back Da’Rel Scott rushed for 320 yards in the first two games of the 2008 season.

Iowa’s defense has yet to give up more than 24 points in a game while scoring less than 29 just once. “I know we’re ranked, right now”, Kirk Ferentz said during his weekly press conference, “because I drive the auto and have the radio on”. The team has been led by Jordan Canzeri, who has rushed for 698 yards and nine touchdowns.

Iowa’s run heavy offense actually plays into the hands of the Terps because their secondary was absolutely put out to dry against Penn State when being beat consistently for big plays down the field. Only one other player has had more than 40 combined carries in consecutive games, and that was running back Wes Brown, who carried the ball 48 times against N.C. State and Boston College as a true freshman.

Maryland is 2-5 on the season, 0-3 in the Big Ten, 4-3 against the spread and 4-2-1 with the over.
