Atlanta Hawks Travel to MSG to Face Knicks

This will be the second game in a tough stretch to start the season for the Knicks, as eight of their first 10 games are against opponents that appeared in the 2015 National Basketball Association Playoffs.

Mike Muscala will not travel to New York for Thursday’s game against the Knicks after a right ankle sprain suffered in the season-opener against the Pistons Tuesday, the Hawks announced.

In Atlanta’s last outing, they certainly did nothing to look like the same team that finished the 14-15 season 43 games ahead of the Knicks in the standings.

Atlanta was outworked and out-shot from the perimeter against the Pistons. New York had a brutal 17-65 record past year but produced a convincing 122-97 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday to tie the franchise mark for largest margin of victory in a season opener.

The Knicks saw seven players score in double figures in their season opening contest. It was pretty even in the opener, with Dennis Schroder leading the way with 20 points.

ABOUT THE KNICKS (1-0): Standout forward Carmelo Anthony had just 11 points on 4-of-16 shooting in the opener and reserve forward Derrick Williams was the star by scoring 24 points in his team debut. That would include Paul Millsap at the small forward, Al Horford at power forward and Splitter at center.

The returning Kyle Korver also had a rough night from the field, shooting just one of five from deep, and three of nine overall, for seven points in 29 minutes of action.

The total has gone OVER in 4 of New York’s last 5 games when playing Atlanta.

According to the team, an X-ray of Muscala’s ankle was negative.
