A vision of a self-driving electric future — Nissan IDS Concept
The combination of aerodynamics, lightness and a new, high-capacity 60kWh battery will allow the IDS Concept to “drive long distances”, according to Nissan.

Nissan Motor Co. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn speaks as he unveils the Nissan IDS concept vehicle, which features self-driving and zero emission.
Honda joined other automakers unveiling their concept cars at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show with the debut of its Wander Stand Thursday, reported World vehicle Fan. When the vehicle isn’t being driven, Toyota envisions that the FCV Plus can connect to an external hydrogen source to create electricity for homes or businesses. Manual gives you control but maintains the surveillance of the Pilot technology in the background for safety.
Nissan, which will gradually begin rolling out autonomous driving technology in the coming years, unveiled its IDS concept vehicle.
The other mode is Manual Drive mode. If that seems a little small for so much range, Nissan has addressed that by making the auto light in weight due to extensive use of carbon fiber. Various driving-related operations are handled by artificial intelligence (AI) yet the car’s performance – from accelerating to braking to cornering – imitates the driver’s own style and preferences.
Sure, that doesn’t sound all that revolutionary, but it’s what it does when you put it in Piloted Drive that’s incredible. The steering wheel retracts into the instrument panel and is replaced by a big flat screen… like something out of Transformers, just without the guns. The chairs swivel slightly inward so that passengers can converse with one another, rather than worry about what’s outside on the road. When a pedestrian is near, the strip turns red to indicate the car’s awareness.
There’s also an electronic display that can flash messages such as “after you” to let pedestrians know it’s safe to walk.
“A key point behind the Nissan IDS Concept is communication”, said Mitsunori Morita, design director.

Powering the IDS is a 60kWh battery pack, twice that of the current LEAF which, if the rumours are right, will feature Nissan’s breakthrough battery technology capable of delivering twice the power from the same size battery as is now possible. In a YouTube video uploaded to their Global Newsroom Page October 28, we hopefully see a glimpse of the future.
