FSU RB Dalvin Cook among 6 injured Seminoles out for Syracuse game

FSU sophomore RB Dalvin Cook will be held out for Saturday’s game against Syracuse with an ankle injury.

Cook suffered an ankle injury during last week’s loss to Georgia Tech, which limited his carries in the second half of that game. In 2012, Florida State was ranked No. 3 in the nation prior to that crushing conference loss that altered its season. That injury is unrelated to a nagging hamstring issue that sidelined him for three quarters earlier this month against Wake Forest. FSU is obviously preparing for the next week’s matchup against Clemson.

“We didn’t know it until afterward, he said his ankle was bothering him”, Fisher said. In fact, the last time FSU lost a regular season game was on November 24th, 2012 to rival Florida. Cook’s absence will be a huge hurdle to overcome, but if any coach in the country can do it, it’s Fisher. Through seven games, Cook has 1,037 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns and is averaging 8.2 yards per carry.

“Has nothing to do with the hamstring”, Fisher said after Thursday’s practice. Syracuse has now lost four straight games coming into this week.

“If he could play this week, he’d play”, Fisher said. If you look at what happened (on that final play), our left side actually covered the middle of the field (after the block), but their right side was the side that was blocking the kick, so when that block happens they’ve got a wall and our guys have to get off the ground.

-CB Jalen Ramsey has been named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top defensive back.

-Quarterback Everett Golson, who didn’t practice Monday because he was resting his arm, is expected to start against Syracuse, Fisher said.

The loss to Georgia Tech was the first of the season for the No. 17 Seminoles. He’s probably going to be a first rounder.

Before facing Clemson though, Florida State must take on Syracuse. “They have a lot of eye discipline in their offense”. Offensive linemen, I thought had a pretty good week in what we were doing. I like the plan we have going in. I think it’s very critical.
