Hideo Kojima’s too nice to sue, Escape from New York director says
During an interview with Seth Abramovitch of The Hollywood Reporter, Carpenter was asked several question about his iconic 1981 American dystopian film, Escape From New York. “I know the director of those games, and he’s a nice guy, or at least he’s nice to me”. “Metal Gear Solid V” is available now.

That being said, Metal Gear has never been all that subtle about where its influences come from. At the behest of John’s associates at CanalPlus, he was urged to file a plagiarism claim alleging unquestionable similarities between Besson’s film, “Lockout”, and “Escape From New York”. A while ago someone saw Luc Besson’s film “Lockout” and said “Hey, this film is a lot like ‘Escape from New York.'” So, from there, StudioCanal took Luc Besson to court and sued him over copyright infringement. Now why would such a nice guy as Kojima leave Konami? There’s yet another reference to Kurt Russell’s character in Metal Gear Solid 2 wherein Snake goes by the alias “Iroquois Plissken”. There are certainly no parallels between the stories, and Kojima once stated that his Solid Snake got his name from the animal, because a “snake was the most appropriate symbol of a living thing that hides his presence and sneaks without any noise”.
For the time being, Kojima has stayed quiet about his departure, but more information will likely be made public when he is no longer under contract with Konami in December. While speaking about the company, Carpenter mentioned that they’d previously looked at suing Konami over Metal Gear, but he convinced them not to. Then again, you cant really blame CanalPlus for wanting to go after someone when they felt their property was threatened; its just one of the facts of the business.
