After scoring a hat-trick in the World Cup finals on Sunday and leading her team to victory, soccer superstar Carli Lloyd celebrated along with the rest of the American team. She had gone 5-0-2 in an interim role in 2012, was given the job on an interim basis again after Sermanni’s departure and then was appointed head coach in May 2014.

The United States had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks and scored its first two goals off restarts and three of its five. Great game @CarliLloyd! Your country is so proud of all of you.

It wasn’t Lloyd’s only award, she also won the “Silver Boot” for second most goals and assists in the tournament, though some complicated tie breakers prevented her from winning the Golden Boot.

“I’m speechless“, Lloyd told FOX.

“In the future maybe I will look back and be proud of it. But we didn’t achieve what we came here for, so it is not easy to think about this at the moment”.

The Germany international’s teammate, Anja Mittag, procured the Bronze Boot.

American Hope Solo won the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper for the second time at the World Cup while Canadian teenager Kadeisha Buchanan was named best young player. Her scintillating performance in the final and Team USA’s win gave her the edge over runner-up Amedine Henry (of France) and Aya Miyama (Japan).
