Dawood is not in Pakistan: Abdul Basit

Describing Jamaat-ud-Dawaa (JuD), the front face of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), as a philanthropic organisation, Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit on Friday said that his country has banned all militant outfits. “Now they (referring to terrorists in Pakistan) are killing their own people here and this should be controlled and stopped”, he said. The two sides also discussed creating linkages between Karnataka and the provinces in Pakistan especially in the fields of Information Technology, health and education. Afghanistan attracted militants from different parts of the world to fight against Soviet forces in the 1980s.

Maintaining that Pakistan wants stability and no firing at the Line of Control, he said Islamabad hopes India accepts “good” proposals presented by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“We trained Taliban and sent them to fight against Russian Federation”.

Top LeT leaders Hafiz Saeed and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi enjoyed that status of heroes in the 1990s, also noted Musharraf. “Later they became villains”, he said, adding that people need to understand the whole environment at that time.

The Taliban, Jalaluddin’s Haqqani Network, bin Laden, and al Zawahiri are responsible for the deaths of thousands of American civilians and service members, as well as many people from an array of other countries.

Musharraf further explained the evolution of terrorism in Pakistan, saying that Hafiz Saeed and Lakhvi were considered as Kashmiri freedom fighters in the 1990s.

“Pakistan must stop using terrorism as an instrument of state policy and sooner Pakistan realises it, the faster the relations between India and Pakistan can progress”, Spokesperson in External Affairs Ministry Vikas Swarup said.

“The connection between those attackers and at least a few elements in the Pakistani government, I do not think they can be credibly denied”, Kaine said when asked about the statement given by Musharraf in an interview that Pakistan supported and helped terrorist organisations like LeT.
