Sonos today confirmed the new and improved all-in-one Play:5 speaker is now available to pre-order for $499.
As for deliveries, the US will get the PLAY:5 first, from November 20.
The touch-control Play:5 smart speaker comes equipped with synchronized midwoofers and tweeters, six custom-made drivers, and six separate antennaes for an exacting and surefire wireless capability.
It’s probably best, though, for Sonos to explain the rest of the Play:5’s selling features. In addition to horizontal orientation as a standalone speaker, two SONOS PLAY:5s paired together vertically deliver top-of-the-line stereo sound with a focused and intense sweet spot.
Pre-orders of the PLAY:5 kick off today, October 29, priced at $499 in the U.S., $549 in Canada, $749 in Australia, €579 in Europe, and £429 in the UK. Functionally, every detail matters, down to the placement of the almost 60,000 individually drilled holes in the grille and the carefully selected material for each and every part.

The new model also adds the ability to operate as wireless surrounds, as do the current Play:3 speakers, when paired with a $699 Sonos Playbar, which also features Sonos wireless-multiroom technology. The system is able to seamlessly play music from a variety of sources, including streaming services like Spotify. Following a similar step-by-step process as its setup procedures, Sonos’ TruePlay EQ enables dealers in under a minute to fine tune the playback of Sonos speakers within any room environment using the microphone built into their iPhones and iPads.
