He says he spent the morning retraining Slaughter on clearing a building, something they had worked on the previous day. “He refused to take his hands out of his pockets”, said Tuten.

Parker then walked through the video as his attorney explained each part of the video.

Patel, who was visiting his son in Alabama to meet his newly born grandson, was slammed to ground and left paralysed in 101 seconds after encountering the police despite him pleading as many as five times that he knows no English, federal prosecutors have said. The Guardian reports that Patel repeated his claim that he doesn’t speak English.

He insisted that he never kicked Patel and said he didn’t think any force he used was excessive and that it was all reasonable.

Day three of Parker’s retrial included the resting of the prosecution.

One of Parker’s supervisors, Sgt. Mark Bray, testified Thursday that a police video doesn’t show Parker doing anything outside of department policy. A few of those who testified briefly were field training officers for Parker.

During day three, the video of the altercation between Patel and Parker was played for members of the courtroom.

“Lumberjack, that’s what it reminds me of, somebody cutting down a tree in their yard”, he said when asked about the takedown of Patel, 57, in response to a neighbour’s call about a “skinny black man” walking near homes. The retrial has taken half as long, with both the prosecution and defense wrapping up their cases Friday morning.
