TCU’s Boykin scrambles forward in Heisman Trophy race
But TCU better capitalize on this break, because their final four games of the year represents the gauntlet on their schedule. His angst is aimed at the coach, and Ron believes he’s allowed Dana Holgorsen ample time to prove himself.

“We’re beat up mentally and physically”, said Holgorsen.
Texas Christian University flew 7-year-old Abby Faber and her family to Thursday night’s game in Fort Worth, Texas, against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Thursday’s game belied the plotline of the three previous contests played by the two teams. On its first drive, it made ideal calls on deep passes, each thrown perfectly for what would have been touchdowns, only to have the receiver drop them. He ran about as much as he did in the Minnesota game, and for about three days after that, he didn’t move very well.
When TCU played October 17 at Iowa State, Faber was an honorary captain and wearing a Cyclones jersey for the pregame coin toss, when Boykin leaned down to the girl in her wheelchair and asked, “What’s your name?” He also took advantage of his quick heels, gaining 84 yards and finding the endzone once on 11 rushing attempts.
A punt gave TCU possession at its 39 with 16 seconds left.
WVU suffered nine total penalties for 114 lost yards.
TCU has since kicked a filed goal and now leads 17-0.
West Virginia would fail to generate any offense punting the ball back to TCU and at first it appeared that the Horned Frogs would extend the lead on a 61-yard touchdown pass to Doctson. But now quarterbacks are daring to throw the ball over defensive backs’ heads in places like Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge.
There was even a play in TCU’s 40-10 victory Thursday night when Boykin scrambled for an 11-yard gain and went out of bounds on the West Virginia sideline – where he slapped hands with a smiling Holgorsen.
“With all due respect to Corey Coleman (Baylor) two weeks ago, Boykin is the best player in college football”, he said.
The first, a pass to Josh Doctson.
Overall, the Horned Frogs outgained the Mountaineers 616-327.
“I didn’t watch”, Patterson said of the play. If they put me down to five and I could stay at five the rest of my life here at TCU, I think I’ll be happy. “We’re not and we’ve got to keep fighting”.
Don’t count WVA out of this game despite the ranking disparity. Freshman David Sills led the team in receiving with 42 yards.
Ron sent his thoughts to Holgorsen and Lyons.
Whether that showed how good the competition the Mountaineers played or how far they have fallen remains to be seen, but this is a program that was ranked No. 6 and 5-0 in 2012 before coming completely apart and never recovering.
“He was right there, so I didn’t know what else to do”, Holgorsen said. “I could have started yelling at our players, but what good is that going go to”.
The season arrived at its fork here. It was a time to change or to continue perceptions.
Holgorsen couldn’t resist the high-five.
CU and West Virginia came into the Big 12 the same season, and under similar circumstances.
Win all three games of those games and Patterson doesn’t feel he will need to do any lobbying for a spot in the four-team College Football Playoff. The senior was 14 for 23 for 270 yards and ran for 52 more yards.
The Frogs shut out the Mountaineers in the second half the game.
