Poppy Appeal Organiser Joe Martin from the Mansfield branch of the Royal British Legion presented the first poppy to Deputy Mayor Cllr Mick Barton at Mansfield Civic Centre.

“Contributions are made by adults, teenagers and children and their parents and teachers, a few of whom have lived here for many year or who are veterans themselves-along with businesses and tradespeople who pass through from neighbouring areas”. Donations help provide medical, financial and general support to those members of the armed forces who suffer injuries whilst serving their country and to families who have lost loved ones during conflict.
Woking’s Poppy Appeal was launched in Jubilee Square this morning by Woking Borough Council and the Royal British Legion.
Mike Walsh, president of the Royal British Legion Rhyl Branch, said: “The balloons were absolutely brilliant, brilliant to look at – we were really chuffed with that”.
“Wear your poppy with pride in memory of the fallen, and for the future of the living”.
And for the first time, online customers will get the opportunity to make a donation to The Royal British Legion and receive a stick-on paper Poppy when they make an order between 23 October and 11 November 2015.
Volunteers from Wembley’s Air Training Corps joined with veterans of World War II and Brent councillors at the Asda store in Wembley Park on Saturday to sell the iconic poppy pins to shoppers.
They are among 19 stars backing London Poppy Day, which aims to raise as much money for the appeal as possible in a single day.
