Evan Spahlinger, 21, was at the burn unit at Kendall Regional Hospital Tuesday, a day after he was injured in the face and neck by the explosion.
“I was laying in bed with my 2-year-old and I heard an explosion, then I started smelling burning, smoke and fire”, Ema Richardson, Sphalinger’s sister, told the news station. She found her brother in another room, burned and gasping for air, so she made the 911 call.
He was flown to the Miami-area for treatment and placed into a medically induced coma, the publication reported. “And possibly the mouth piece went, when the cigarette exploded, it went down his throat and exploded again”.
A GoFundMe account was created to offset medical expenses for Spahlinger, who works as an office manager at a vehicle stereo installation business, according to his Facebook page. She said they’ve been embraced by an outpouring of support from friends and family.
“You do it yourself, you get more control out of it.at the same time, you can rep it with too low of resistance and that can a circuit, or something along those lines, with the battery”, said Trevor Sollitto. “That’s the only thing he said”.
“The greatest danger about e-cigarettes is that it’s an unregulated product”.

“I hope that people see this and think twice before they spend their hard-earned money on something that could really change their life forever”, Stefanicci said.
